Hartenberg Tenacity Merlot 2008 – Stellenbosch WO – 75cl
CHF38,85
The Hartenberg winemaker Carl Schultz won the “Winemaker of the Year” award from Diners Club for the very fine 2004 Estate Merlot. This achievement was surpassed when the 2005 Estate Merlot was named World’s Best at the 2008 International Wine and Spirit Competition.
DESCRIPTION
Silky and elegant, with a long-lasting finish, expect toasted spices, prosciutto, and plum orchard notes.
Green harvesting, vineyard selection, and blind tasting of vineyard parcels after harvest ensure that the wine represents the best of the vintage. Handpicked, destemmed, and lightly pressed. The grapes were cold soaked for 2 days and then fermented with French yeast. The must was fermented between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius and pumped over four times daily. An extended maceration of 10 days was followed by fractional pressing (free run and some press juice were later blended). After settling, the wine underwent 100% malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels.
